The morning hours at this wide road that runs between Jain Mandir and The Crescent apartments see brisk business of fruit and vegetable vendors, especially by those who visit the temple during this time. Added to this, on week days the vehicular movement of people going for work while on the weekends the mobile vans of household provision and papad/namkeen/dry sweet items doing good business is a lively scene for those who shop. However it may not be so pleasant for some who want to walk through the road or those residents staying in the apartments who wish for peaceful mornings.
This hustle-bustle suddenly disappears by 10 am. It is all quiet and no vendors are to be seen on either side of the road. The ‘sudden’ change of scene became clear to me one morning, when the vendors looked ruffled for few minutes and were back to their normal selling thereafter. On asking the reason for that brief commotion, one of them replied “Committee wali hatne ko bol gayee”. It’s their regular routine, the other one pitched in. Within the next hour all of them move away.
Indeed! This is a win-win situation for both – the committee people doing their job and the vendors who have had their items sold. It is beneficial for the shoppers too. Such local shopping of fresh stuff, with bargain and exchange of greetings, is rare to see these days.
Each to their own; but this side of the F-block is gaining popularity for the morning shopping of a variety of fresh fruits.
Would like to draw attention to the parking habit of the shoppers that causes inconvenience to others in such an unorganized/informal shopping. Why do we want to park the cars/scooters right in front of the vending carts? Many times it is difficult to turn because a car is parked in the corner and the driver is not at all concern for other vehicle who wants to turn. The corner is the point where vehicles take U-turn.
A little understanding and ‘concern for others’ will make the mornings good for all.
