The auspicious nine days of Navratri brings an unmistakable sense of excitement and devotion. Among the myriad ways in which this festival is celebrated across the country, one tradition that stands out is the Navratri Kirtan. Satpami, Ashtami, and Navmi, the seventh, eighth, and ninth nights of Navratri, are the zenith of Navratri celebrations. The clubhouse at Mahagun Morpheus is transformed into a haven of festivity and devotion with residents from all walks of life coming together to partake in this tradition, creating a true sense of community and spiritual connection.
Vibrant flowers strings, diyas, red chunnis, beautiful decor adorn the walls of the clubhouse, scent of incense wafts through the air as residents, donned in traditional attire, gather around a beautifully adorned shrine dedicated to the goddess Durga. The heart of the celebration is the Navratri Kirtan, a melodious fusion of bhajans and folk songs that resonate with profound devotion.
The Kirtan, led by the women of the society, takes center stage. Their voices, brimming with emotion, echo through the surroundings as they sing hymns and bhajans dedicated to the divine feminine. Everyone present joins in, clapping their hands in rhythm and expressing their devotion through dance. Devotees take blessings from Ma Durga to fulfill all their desires. Prasad is distributed to all devotees after the kirtan. Dandiya Raas is also performed by some ladies to express their joy and devotion in these divine days.
The Navratri Kirtan is not confined to the realm of religion; it provides a unique opportunity for the younger generation to connect with their roots, immersing themselves in the fervor and traditions of their elders. It is also a testament to the rich tapestry of India’s culture and heritage.
It is wonderful to see how the Mahagun Morpheus residents strive to celebrate all traditions with pomp and splendor all the year round. This keeps the traditions alive in the hearts and minds of all and moreover inspires the younger generation to know about India’s rich heritage and partake in it.
