In our present times, with our fragmented and disconnected cultures, ugly politics, stressful technology and fast-paced lives, the one unconditional love we can depend on is that of our pet! A dog is your best listener and your faithful friend. We look after them as our own family. But about the many who are homeless and live on the streets, dependent on kind souls to feed and nurture them. They have a very tough life, foraging for food, living in packs, prone to injury and disease and very often human cruelty.
The government laid down laws to protect them, and therefore it is illegal to displace them. However, they failed miserably in their mission to control their population through sterilization, or even vaccination for rabies.
So what are we doing for them in South City 1? A wonderful initiative was started called Dog Welfare, South City 1, where committed caregivers like Monica Sharma, Mala Seth, Trupti, Purnima Raghav and many more work relentlessly to vaccinate, sterilize, feed and treat these voiceless animals.
This group has more than sixty participants who regularly contribute to collectively look after the canine population. Every month many are treated and sometimes hospitalized for injuries and other diseases.
This is the ONLY way forward to finally control their population, have healthy and happy dogs, and reduce the animal-human conflict.
With this kind of social responsibility our next generation also learns to be compassionate to animals. It would be wonderful if every lane had a volunteer to help this group to increase their reach. And of course, any contribution, however small, could go a long way to fund this very noble cause.
