I am a bona fide citizen of India. That means that I have every right to do things here without fear and my head is held high. This includes chucking my trash wherever I want to. Why should I be restricted from throwing garbage, my leftovers, my mess into a dustbin? The area under my park bench where I relax, under the trees where I protect myself under the shade on a hot summer afternoon, on the roads where I drive, on the pavements where I walk, any spot where I sit down to enjoy my snack and drink with my friends- all these belong to my country and nobody can stop me from leaving behind my mark, my trail.
I can leave behind the used and soiled cups, plates, spoons, napkins, bottles, food containers, peels, wrappers, plastic and paper bags as many as I wish to, whenever I wish to and wherever I wish to. Am I supposed to be responsible for how my surroundings look and smell, how clean is the society we live in, what impression we are making to the world, what civic sense we are teaching our children and future generations??
It would be my earnest request not to bother me by telling me what to do, how to do and how to manage my country’s look and feel. Stop pulling strings on my freedom here. It is MY country and the entire place is my dustbin.
