In a freak accident, a malba truck loaded with malba from an excavation site in the colony was passing over the bridge on the north side of the central park /Sai baba mandir side.
Seeing a bhandara ahead the driver parked the truck on the extreme left of the nallah and got down to take prasad. Never could he imagine what happened next. The load of the truck was too much for the old bridge to handle and it gave way taking the truck with it and breaking a water pipeline and electric pipeline resulting in a small fire under the bridge.
As always, the colony guards got into action and area over the bridge was barricaded. The defence colony police team and Sandeep Baisoya arrived and took charge of the situation with the RWA security team.
Being evening time and the RLS Marg closed which is one of the main arterial road running through the colony blocked. The traffic spilled all over the colony causing traffic jam and chaos at all intersections. It took Seven hours and two cranes to get the truck out of the nallah.
Ultimately, the damaged area was barricaded and bridge was opened to traffic.
Lastly, we would like to thank volunteering residents Sumeet Chugh and Akshar Bhan and many other unknown residents who helped in managing the situation with the guards and also Sandeep Baisoya who immediately got all depts in action and rectification work was started.
We urge RWA to take up the matter with the PWD and MLA to build a new bridge as the current one is in a dilapidated condition and has to be redone.
