Defence Colony

Def Col Club Part 2

This is a continuation to what I wrote in Samvada, Sep 2023, last month. A quick recap, point wise.

• In the Def col Club, we don’t have a party room presently.

Convert a cards room (there are three presently and seldom is the second one used) into a party room for about 25 persons.

• The room on the first floor to be similarly furnished for larger parties.

• Activate the billiards and pool tables.

• Rejuvenate the Library.

• A few more points have been suggested to make the club more exciting and profitable.

Sports Complex

Going ahead – The Def Col Club sports complex is located adjacent to Dr Radha Krishnan International School in C Block. It is an area large enough for sports for a locality of our size. We are fortunate that we have this kind of space in Defence Colony for residents’ and their children’s physical health and well-being. There are very few colonies in Delhi that have such facility. To be able to play sports in the neighbourhood is a convenience that has untold benefits, including improvement in enhanced quality of life. Children, teenagers, young adults and seniors – must avail this facility.

1. Tennis. We have a synthetic tennis court which is flood-lit and functional till 9:00 pm. In addition, we have two tennis clay courts. A tennis academy is running and maintaining this facility and it is reasonably well run and reasonably priced. The quality of courts and instructors are such that have attracted and produced national and international players to train and practice. This tennis academy is running classes for small children and grown-up children as well as those who are wanting to compete in higher level competitions.

A lot more can be created in this space of this sports complex, as below-

2. Badminton. This sports complex has ample space for two badminton courts. To have badminton facility in the complex a Badminton Academy can be approached, and the required area be allocated to them. They can create synthetic covered courts, complete with flood lights and Badminton instructors to coach our kids and others. On similar lines as is happening in Tennis.  (NOTE: The Badminton courts being planned in the park next to the club are more meant for our kids to play around and may not be suitable for formal coaching and may not be run professionally.)

3. Skating Rink. There is none in or near Defence Colony. And we can comfortably have one in this sports complex. All kids love to skate. And it just needs a cemented portion of ground. The club management will receive blessings from parents whose kids will be availing this. Instructors and coaching are available for this easily.

4. Incidentally there is a walking track as the perimeter of the area with benches to sit around. It’s always such a pleasure to see and hear the laughter and fun of children playing. Come and walk here and enjoy this pleasure.

5. Add in a small refreshment point during play timings to help the sports persons there in rejuvenating their energy and we are done.
