Hello All! Let me narrate a scary albeit disturbing story. Day before yesterday my husband and I were sitting watching tv in the evening. My phone rang. It was an unknown number. I don’t usually pick them up but this time I did. As soon as I clicked a video came up on FaceTime immediately with a woman who started undressing quickly and completely. We were in shock and it took maybe 10 secs to register that it was a vulgar scam. So, I disconnected and blocked the number.
Today around 4.25 pm I got a call (9808539371) from a chap saying that he is so called sub inspector Shukla from crime branch, Delhi police and wanted to speak with my husband. Would not tell me the reason. On immense insistence he finally said that my husband and a girl’s video is going to go viral on u tube v soon and it will not be good for him etc. To stop it I needed to call U tube adm who would delete it.
He gave me a number (9668470511– Hemant Malhotra). When I called the other guy he said he will be able to delete it only after a fine payment of Rs. 17,000 which will be refunded after deletion. By now I had smelled a rat (should have smelt it earlier!!) so I told him that he was part of a scam and disconnected. Called the first guy and told him about this and he said the same thing —that nothing can be done without the online fine payment. By now I was convinced that it was a huge scam and told him I would report them to the cops. He said that he will come in 2 hrs to arrest me for the viral video!!!
So, what do I do next??? Call up our ever-obliging superb human being— Anuj Bakshi who put me in touch asap with SHO Chander Shekhar. When I narrated the whole story to him, he reassured me that nobody can do anything to me and this fraud has been happening since quite some time now and a similar one took place in GK recently. Happening more with senior citizens.
Technology and fraudsters are an extremely dangerous reality now. Sharing this info so that yuo are all aware of this cheap, bewildering and cheeky trick and also please avoid picking up unknown numbers. Thank u dearest Anuj for your everlasting support. Blessings always.
