Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. The celebratory customs associated with Janmashtami include a celebration festival, reading and recitation of religious texts, dance and enactments of the life of Krishna according to the Bhagavata Purana, devotional singing till midnight (the time of Krishna’s birth), and fasting, amongst other things.
Jaanmaasthami celebrations mark the beginning of the festive season. We at Malibu take pride in celebrating all occasions at a community level and this event was no exception. The Keertan group in association with MTRWA invited all residents to celebrate Janmashtami on 6th September at Central Park from 7.30 onwards. The festivities included cultural activities, Keertan, swings for children and food stalls. An area was earmarked for ‘Laddoo Gopal Ka Jhula’ and devotees enjoyed participating in paying their respects to Lord Krishna as a baby by gently swinging the Jhoola. There was lots of enthusiasm amongst the audience and the whole place was full of devotional fervor. The cultural activities offered a mix of high-energy solo and group performances by children and ladies. During the break between the activities audiences too enjoyed dancing to the Krishna bhajans. After the performances, Keertan was performed till midnight when the birth of Shri Krishna was celebrated with Arti and Prashad.
Manita, Gina, Amit, Vijay, Poonam, Preety and Madhu Aunty ( Keertan group) are the untiring volunteers and office bearers of MTRWA who have worked tirelessly to put together this beautiful event.
Krishan Janmashtami Utsav was also celebrated at Sankat Mochan Mandir on 7th September with Bhajan- Sankirtan Abhishekam from 8 o’clock onwards.
Shree Sanatan Dharam Sabha Trust (regd.) also organized Janmashtami on 7th September and Ras-Leela on 8th and 9th September to mark the festivities of Krishna Janmashtami.
Showcasing the mythology and our culture through the involvement of the whole community together instils a sense of belongingness and helps the younger generation to imbibe and ingrain the essence of our culture and practices.
