On Saturday, the 23rd of September 2023, SAAHAS NGO, with permission from SCRWA, conducted an e-waste collection Drive in South City 1, along with a Door-to-Door awareness regarding the proper disposal of the electrical and electronic equipment.
The objective of E-Waste management is to educate consumers about the threats posed by improper disposal of E-Waste to human beings and the environment. Kabadiwallas might give us money for E- Waste but the informal recycling sector relies on harmful methods of metal extraction like acid leaching, burning of cables in the open etc. This leads to the release of toxic substances which are damaging to our environment and our well-being.
The Saahas Team witnessed good participation from the households on the day of the Collection drive and around 38 kg of E-Waste was collected.
To keep the practice of responsible E-Waste management going, a Yellow Smart Bin has been placed at the SCRWA office at B 84. Residents can put their E-waste in the bin at their convenience. Once full, the Saahas Team will ensure the emptying of the Bin by an authorised Recycler.
So, before you think of throwing your old bulbs, batteries, CDs, phones and other E-waste into the trash can, please rE-think, rE-use, rE-duce and rE-cycle your E-waste.
