South City-1, a bustling locality in the center of Gurgaon, is known for its proximity to the City Center, Millenium Metro Station, and huge office complexes on NH-8.
However, beneath the shiny surface, residents are grappling with a slew of issues, and the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has not been able to resolve many grievances of its residents.
One of the most pressing concerns for Gurgaon’s residents is the state of various roads. With Pot-holed and poorly maintained central avenue, navigating the streets can be a tiresome and perilous task. It’s not uncommon to see vehicles swerving to avoid craters that seem more suited to a lunar landscape than a premium colony.
Waste management is another thorn in the side of its residents. The residents generate a substantial amount of waste, but efficient disposal and recycling remain elusive goals. Overflowing garbage bins that are not collected by ECOGREEN regularly and litter-strewn streets due to irregular street cleaning are common sights. RWA and Residents have been clamouring for a more effective waste management system that keeps their surroundings clean and healthy. Numerous representations to the MCG team have not been responded to.
Overflowing sewer pipes that clog every few days in the colony mean that residents must live in stench for days and in a few instances even weeks. Numerous complaints to MCG officials like SDO, Executive Engineer and even the MCG Commissioner have not helped as the MCG staff complains that its contractors have changed or do not have the required equipment for cleaning the drains. Over half a dozen instances of sewer clogging have been reported since the beginning of July and each one took 8-20 days to resolve.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon must rise to the occasion, listen to our residents, and work towards comprehensive solutions to make South City a better place to live for all. It’s time for Gurgaon to shine not only in its glitzy lights and skyscrapers but also in its public services.
OR Is this just a waste of time…
