An Electrifying Neighbourhood

If you were to take a walk around the sector you will notice one thing in common all over the sector. There are electricity boxes lying open throughout the sector. In every lane, corner and even in parks the situation is the same and dangerously so.

Boxes for the street light control switches mounted on poles can be seen without covers and those which do have covers also can be seen lying open with wires carrying high voltage hanging out. The line man who comes twice a day to switch the streetlights on and off doesn’t bother closing them and leaves them open. On being questioned as to why he leaves them open he said that if he doesn’t leave them open then half of his time will go in opening and closing them and moreover who is touching them. It’s appalling to see the callousness of the electricity department employees.   Also the central control boxes or distribution boxes are lying open throughout the sector with wires carelessly hanging out and joined together without any insulation what so ever. Even the parks are not safe. The control boxes used for operating the tube wells are almost always open. Also the wires that are used for connecting the tube well with the control box just runs across the walk-way with the joints open and live wire exposed. These electrical hazards can prove to be very dangerous if not dealt with quickly. It’s only a matter of time before a mishap takes place. The ones in the park are the most dangerous as children play near them and someday some kid out of curiosity might approach the open wires or may accidently touch the exposed wires. Some time back there was an incident in Delhi where a child died after being electrocuted when he went to retrieve his ball and accidently touched exposed wires of the high mast light. The Noida authority should take cognizance of this issue at the earliest and take to task whichever department is responsible for this dangerous situation.
