The retirement age is 60 years as decided by the Government, but Sarita Tandan started her second inning of swimming at the age of 60 in 2016, after a long break of 45 years. The same year, she participated in the National Master’s swimming championship and won one silver and bronze medal. This success encouraged her, and she decided to continue her passion for swimming.
A resident of 2 B since 2018, she is very fond of swimming and started at the age of 10. However, she took a long break of 45 years and restarted it. Her coach Edna Sharma, had faith in her and worked hard to coach her 2 hours daily. Luckily she got a chance to participate in the Fin swimming masters championship in Egypt and won three medals for India in 100, 200 and 400 metres butterfly. This competition was held on 24th and 25th June 2023.
Besides that, she has also won 30 gold, silver, and bronze medals in National level swimming.
People say every success has a woman behind it but Sarita says that her whole family is behind her achievements.”My daughter Suneera, forcefully took me to the pool in 2016 and my son Sidharth takes care of my diet, workout and practice. Besides that, full support for my husband, Prem Tandan. Inspired by me, my children are also fond of swimming.”
Sarita is a sweet, simple and humble lady, who mixes up with everyone. She loves cooking, music and badminton also. We pray for her more success in future.
