Where Mind Is Without Fear…. And Head Is Held High

The Independence Day brings with it an undisputable feeling of patriotism a tribute to sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers against the tyranny of British rule. It is a reminder to all citizens that the pillars of democracy that we take for granted have been handed over to us after so much persecution and pain and it’s our duty to protect and preserve the actual essence of democracy. It is also a reminder to all that our caste, creed or religion is not above the interests of society and nation.

This year again, August 15 brought with it the feeling of unity and nationalism in Crescent. The flag hoisting was done at 10:00 by Naresh Mehra followed by national anthem by ladies and kids of Crescent, carrying on the tradition of respect to seniors and nurturing of women and children of society. While residents enjoyed the “Independence Day sweets”, the cultural program commenced, celebrating and showcasing the spirit of freedom by the young talents of Crescent. The program started with Nysa performing on keyboard, thereafter, there was poetry recitation by Shaurya and Siddhant, dance by Shubhrata and Mihika, group singing by Suneeta, Madhvi and Vanita, dance by Kushagra and Kavyansh, duet song by Rutvi and Riyansh, dance by Hitanshi and Mihika, keyboard performance by Srishti, dance by Samridhi and Verdhini, poetry recitation by Aatisha and dance by Riyansh and Rivaan. The residents in colours of saffron, white and green, cheered and encouraged the participants, while absorbing themselves in the spirit and fervour of independence.

Freedom is not just a privilege, but a responsibility. Our Constitution has granted us fundamental rights, but it has also given us fundamental duties to be performed to upheld the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India.  Crescent continues these traditions of brotherhood and harmony, where words of Rabindranath Tagore resonates- “Where mind is without fear and the head is held high, into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my ‘Crescent’ awake”.
