Be A Part Of The Comedy Skits Festival

Theatre In The Park (Meghdutam Fest 2023)

Here’s an opportunity for those interested in doing theatre. Why not present a short comedy skit during the Meghdutam Festival in November? Here’s your chance to show off your acting skills. Or do it for the fun of it.

Last year Meghdutam Rangmanch staged Bhartendu Harishchandra’s popular play, Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja. Sarla Adhikari, the director, first conducted a month-long theatre workshop with children. The play was well received.

This year’s Theatre in the Park will present a medley of hilarious skits or short plays. Interested residents will have enough time to plan and prepare their skits if they start early.

Here are a few preliminary guidelines. Language: Hindi/ English/ Hinglish. Each skit should have at least three actors. Children, adults, or both together, can present a skit. Duration of skit: Around five minutes.

A skit is a very short play usually meant for comedic purposes. Think of ideas, situations or short stories that make you laugh. Determine the theme of your play (satire, parody, or spoof) and use dramatic devices to create a good impact. Finally, write out your scenes, rehearse and put it up for an audience.

Participating in community theatre stimulates one’s imagination, creativity and self-expression. It builds teamwork and community rapport. It improves dialogue and negotiation skills. Last, but not the least, it improves communication skills, especially so for the children.
