In the wake of heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh in July, the rivers emerging from there swelled, causing water levels downstream to rise. This led to the breaching of the danger mark for the Yamuna. For the first time in four decades, Central Delhi was submerged for a few days.
Those living near/ by the riverbanks had to be evacuated to safer areas including animals. The displaced required help. Along with the government, citizens came forward to do their bit. Always ready to help Hamletians too did whatever they could.
Madhu Bhagat’s (9214) Passion for Compassion led from the front with residents pitching in. A community kitchen provided warm meals to the displaced. They provided rescue and relief for the Gaushala animals & provided the cows and dogs food.
Reeya Thakur (8223), who runs Happy Tails Foundation & has a shelter in Sector 105, ensured rescue and relief for many trapped street dogs, cats, monkeys, and bulls and cows, rescuing animals from their inundated shelters and rescue homes. Residents’ contributions, in the form of funds, food, and bedding, enabled the rescue work.
Sanya and Rahil Kalra (12244) rescued some stray dogs and fostered a puppy for some time.
It is yeoman service that so many of our residents engage in; it is a great opportunity for us to play our parts (however small) in ensuring the success of these tasks, whether through physical or financial contributions.
