Aroundwater happens to be the most accessible source of water and is depleting at an alarming rate due to urbanisation and the growing need for water. The groundwater is declining at a rapid rate in Gurgaon owing to massive construction and a growing population.
As we are on the foothills of Aravalli and are on a slope, we were aware of the fact that crores of litres of rainwater was getting wasted in every rainy season. This was not getting digested by the SRWA and our very own environmentalist Rahul Khera. So, Suncity took the praiseworthy initiative to save rainwater as much as possible we could and recharge the groundwater in 2018.
The Rain Water Harvesting Pits are located at various places in the Suncity township and they play a vital role in collecting the surface runoff during heavy rains and filling the underground aquifer. Approximately we can recharge 45561000 litres of rainwater.
There are 10 RWH recharge pits and 2 more are at the construction stage. With Coca-cola’s support, 5 RWH pits were constructed in 2018. Then in the year 2020, with MCG support, 4 more were added. In the year 2021, with the support of GHORE, 1 more was built. Now in 2023, 2 more are in the making.
If you will go to parks no 1, 2, 7, the sports park, the main gate on both sides and a small park near the dispensary, you will find the RWH pits.
Apart from the above, we are trying to divert the rainwater in the natural ponds, natural low-lying areas and creed. We have made one on the La Lagune road ( the road attached to the Aravalli forest ). We will soon be adding three more in this area.
