Protests Lead to Revised Upgradation Plans for K16 Park in DLF

The upgradation of K16 Park by DLF, has sparked a debate from concerned residents. Some residents of K Block were quick to express their dissatisfaction with the decision to lay tiles on the walking track, citing potential risks and health concerns while others wanted tiles so that the path can be used during the monsoon too.

The issue came to light when a message circulated among residents expressing reservations about the plan. The message highlighted the importance of walking on soft surfaces, which are gentler on joints and reduce the risk of injuries from falls or imbalances. It also underscored concerns about the tiles becoming slippery during monsoons due to the level difference with the rest of the park. Also, requested the to finish the work urgently as the uprooting soil has made it murkier to walk.

At the same time, the Q block people requested to pave the tiles on the higher level so that they can walk comfortably and the water may seep in the soil from sides and suggested to use stone.

Previously, some residents scheduled a gathering at the park at 10 AM on 22nd July to voice their dissent, urging Mr Vipin Yadav to intervene on their behalf which was late joined by Mr Vikas Thapar. The residents’ commitment to safeguarding the well-being of middle-aged and senior citizens who frequent the walking track underscored the importance of their cause.

In response to the mounting concerns and community feedback, DLF and the RWA engaged in discussions to find a viable resolution. As a result, the upgradation plan was revised to address the residents’ apprehensions while still enhancing the park’s features. DLF authorities have clarified that the all-weather paths are not slippery and can be used in monsoon.

The new plan includes refinishing the park’s gate wall and entry gates with Red Sandstone, and the walking track will now be made with Terracotta-coloured PCC Paver, Grit finish, Gravel path, and a sand bed, ensuring an all-weather exposed resurfacing. Notably, the walkways have been designed to be friendly for specially-abled individuals, reflecting a more inclusive approach to the park’s enhancements.

DLF has requested to review the plan. No confirmation or statement came till the time the news was published.
