Yash and Purnima Vir, residents of Pavilion Court, famous as the colour – coordinated golfing couple, conquer the course with name tags and bags that carry His Taylormade and Her Ping
sets. Purnima worked as an Associate Professor in Vivekananda College from 1984 to 2021 where she started the Department of Food Technology. As a Golfer, she regularly participates and wins in tournaments.
She has won many accolades; however, her crowning achievement is the four ‘Hole-in-One’ titles at Wishtown.
Yash worked in Tea Gardens in Assam after graduating from St Stephen’s. A prolific writer, he got into advertising and then in the e-learning division of Genpact. Though retired, he still works for a technology company.
Yash & Purnima’s love for golf started in Assam where they had a golf course across their bungalow. After relocating to Delhi in 1984, they started their life from scratch and promised each other to restart golf after gaining a foothold in their respective professions.
In the years that followed, they played in every golf course in NCR. As early settlers in Wishtown, they organised tournaments for as low as 100 rupees a person to make the course a popular hub.
Yash & Purnima bond over golf and have code words – lambi jhadu (good swing), Timbuctoo (hitting all over), prayer karo (focus), Aao twist karen (hitting shots). She forbids him to play with new balls as he hits them into water. He calls himself a versatile player hitting all over the place and hums aao twist karen every time she is ready to hit a shot.
They keep the laughs and entertainment alive as they play and inspire other residents to step on the golf course as couples and enjoy the bliss of golfing and companionship.
