On 15th June 2023 Priyanka camp was demolished, the authorities had already given them enough notices to vacate. But the residents of the camp were up in arms against the MCD. for doing their job. The whole police force was present. Strict bandobast was there so no one, not even the journalists could enter the cordoned off area of the camp. My man managed to get in somehow and managed to get some pictures.
I remember some of the residents had done a PIL in High Court to remove the Juggies around Vasant Vihar on the grounds that they are in green belt, they are sitting on government land and these colonies are breeding ground for illegal activities and for thievery. The prayer was to clean up Vasant Vihar by removing the camps. But now the smallest and newest ones have been broken down. Does this mean that in the near future the rest of the camps will also be removed?
Coolie camp is one of the dirtiest camps in this area. I have been writing to Samvada and to the commissioner of M.C.D. but nothing seems to work now. We have noticed that the buildings have been extended to the fourth floor in coolie camp and they are being made with balconies all around. Are they not scared of the building collapsing without proper foundations?
None of them are paying their taxes. So how come they are using all amenities including A.C. washing machines, etc. so they earn but no tax is paid, not fair!
The high court has pulled up some of the colonies for illegally pruning and cutting down huge branches in the colony only so the residents can get enough sunlight especially in the winter. This is happening in the Hill view also. Last year I had complained to department but no action was taken. We are lucky to enjoy a lot of green belt and we should be grateful for that.
