When you have the word ‘Sports’ right there in the name, it’s natural that the Gulmohar Sports-cum-Community Centre, to give its name, would have a lot of sports action. Regular visitors to the 3-acre playground and the main building would have no doubt seen the beehive of sports activity the Gulmohar Centre has become over the years, with professional academies sharing space with people who bring in their young ones to the Children’s Corner, and the older ones engaged in the sport of their choice.
The Centre has now brought the member community together to showcase their competitive spirit in a variety of games with the Grand Sports Meet 2023. The event attracted more than a hundred entries, from five-year-old little champs to those nearing eighty! The action began with Chess and Carrom and saw keenly contested matches that had the audience wanting more. Mr.R.C.Gupta won the Carrom Singles, with Sanjeev Kumar as Runner-up, and Sanjeev Bhandari a close third. In Chess, as expected, Mr.Praveen Upadhyay and Atul Bal battled it out in the Seniors category, and the former triumphed after an intense contest. In the Juniors category, Vivaan Singhal got the better of Arham Jain. Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Cricket, Football, Athletics, Swimming, and Snooker will follow soon, and going by the enthusiastic response from participants and spectators alike, this is going to be a Grand meet indeed!
Several members of the Managing Committee and the Sports Sub-committee of the Gulmohar Centre have played sports at a high level, even representing Delhi and India, and are bringing their experience and expertise to the table to help organize the event well.
For members and their families, it’s been a while since the last sports event was held at the Centre, and they’ve been eagerly looking forward to it. On its part, the Centre was waiting for the right time to put its plans into play. Going by the large number of entries, it’s going to be memorable few weeks for all, and strengthen the Centre’s reputation for organizing events further.
