occupying public land illegally leading to water & air pollution
B Block B4 residents have recently united once again to raise their voice against a hazardous building material vendor occupying public land illegally next to House No. B-4/192, Safdarjung Enclave.
They have cited an order by the Hon’ble NGT dated: 3rd March 2021 in the matter of OA No. 49/2021 titled “Bandhua Mukti Morcha NGO Vs Rajeev Kumar & Ors regarding pollution.
And many other similar judgements which clearly prohibit and such activity in residential colonies. The harm caused to the environment and people in the vicinity in Safdarjung Enclave (House No. B-4/192 to B-4/199 and surrounding areas) is as follows:
a. Air pollution
Dust is blowing 24×7 due to uncovered sand and aggregates along with cement storage in the public land.
b. Water pollution
All the local labour of the vendor urinates and uses the public land for washing clothes and bathing leading to contaminated water getting stagnated leading to mosquito breeding (causes malaria, dengue etc.)
c. Noise pollution
Most of the time building material wagons including diesel trucks are getting loaded and unloaded along with scrap material of building which leads to heavy traffic jams and noise pollution.
d. Illegal land occupation
In a premium colony of Delhi, this material vendor is ruining the aesthetics of the area. The labour and other staff working for him are sleeping in the open and drying their clothes along the road on public land.
This also attracts drug addicts making the colony even more insecure.
Innumerable families with senior citizens and children from different age groups are residents of this densely populated area of south Delhi (Safdarjung Enclave + Humuyun Pur + Arjun Nagar + Krishna Nagar) and this building material vendor has been occupying this piece of public land illegally affecting the already poor AQI prevailing in this area of Delhi. Needless to mention that children & senior citizens who are already facing breathing issues and low immunity levels are getting further affected.
The Group has written to the Deputy Commissioner, SDMC for prompt action and removal of this illegal building material vendor along with a copy to all the respective authorities including the Hon’ble Lt. Governor and the National Green Tribunal. Hope this sets an example and all building material vendors in residential colonies of Delhi are removed with immediate effect. Law is surely not a hindrance, implementation of Law is. With citizens taking it in their hands, hopefully we will see the Delhi AQI getting better and tax paying premium colonies getting that minimum level of quality of life.
