The residents of Silver Estate came together on 31 May to celebrate Chabeel. A traditional Indian festival, on this day sweet cold milk-and-water drink, rose flavoured, is served to provide relief in the heat of the overhead sun of the summer season. The event was organized by the Silver Estate Ladies and was attended by over 100 people.
The highlight of the event, as per the tradition, was the distribution of refreshing milk sharbat prepared by the ladies in large quantity with milk, sugar and rose syrup. This milk sharbat (‘Chabeel’ is the Punjabi word for this sweetened drink) was distributed to all the passer-by, the rickshaw puller, auto drivers, drivers, maids of all ages young and old. This is a day, as a token, we can appreciate our helpers and service providers who are on a move in the summer heat.
The Silver Estate Ladies is a group of active residents who work to improve the quality of life in the community. The association organizes a variety of events and activities throughout the year, including Chabeel.
Over all efforts of the ladies on this occasion was a great success. It was a wonderful opportunity for the Ladies of Silver Estate to come together and celebrate ‘our culture’.
