21st May was a nightmare of a night for some residents in Park Street A block. On the deep noiseless night, around 2.30 am, residents suddenly heard a loud bang in the colony lane. When everyone rushed out to see what had happened, what we saw was shocking.
A youngster along with his friend had entered the Park Street Gate, at normal speed, in an i10 car and suddenly accelerated his car to first hit the planters and trees on the left side breaking them completely, then ramming and smashing 3 residents parked cars badly! The i10 car was also completely damaged, so much so that it was almost unrecognisable.
Probably, unnerved by what had happened, the boys then reversed from the lane parking lot and went towards the other gate to escape. The residents were informed by the guards immediately about the massacre, and they got the gates closed, the vehicle confiscated and the boys brought to their knees and called the police PCR for safety.
I must appreciate the quick response we got on dialling 100, It took just 12 minutes for the PCR to arrive and the situation was in control. The boys came forward to surrender and take the onus of the entire incident even though there was a heated exchange of words between the residents and the boys initially.
After they apologised, there was a mutual settlement to get all the damaged cars repaired and a security token was taken in lieu of the expected expenses for the aggrieved parties. Presently the cars are all in repairs however it is an unnecessary trouble for the aggrieved parties and this kind of rash behaviour is not acceptable at all.
Youngsters driving after being intoxicated or under substance, are not only risking their lives but the lives of people on the road. Fortunately, this time around, no resident or the guards were injured.
