Guru Arjan Dev ji, the fifth guru of Sikhs, was executed by Mughal Emperor Jahangir, who feared his growing following and spread of Sikhism in Northern India. Every year, to salute the courage, determination and sacrifice of Guru Arjan Dev ji, Shaheedi Diwas is observed as a remembrance of his martyrdom.
Chabeel, popularly known as rose sherbet with water and milk is served to quench the thirst of people in the scorching heat. A Chabeel was organised under the Sikanderpur metro station on May 23 by the disciples. Langar was also served to the devotees.
The day began with reciting Japji Sahib paath and Ardaas was done before serving. Devotional songs or shabads were also continuously played. The langar and chabeel which began at 11 am continued till 4 pm. People came in large numbers to have the Prasad.
