On a recent visit to a bank at Sewa Bhawan, as I stepped out I was approached by four men in saffron clothes. All of them had bags hanging on their shoulders. Divided into groups of twos they approached me from both sides and started begging for money. Trying to avoid any eye contact I tried to move towards my car quickly.
That’s when one of them on the left side took out a snake from his bag and pointed towards me and started asking for money and begging. I nearly froze and was shocked to see this act. I tried to move faster, this time the second man on the right side approached in the same manner and took out a snake from the bag. Showing me the snake he also started begging and tried coming near me. I was lucky my car and driver were just there, I panicked and quickly jumped inside the car. I was terrified by the sight of two snakes in a cloth bag and how conveniently these men were trying to scare people and asked for money.
What worried me more was that these snakes were loosely kept in a cloth bag. They could easily escape or be left out on purpose. Keeping animal rights in mind, it’s an offence to keep them like this.
The next day a resident of L 5 shared a picture of a group of men in saffron-coloured clothes roaming on the streets of L block.
They were not stopped at the gates initially. It was after the lady shared the pictures on a WhatsApp group, QRT was summoned and they were asked to leave.
