Never Ending Water Woes Of Safdarjung Enclave

Water Tanker Is Not The Solution

Come summers and the water woes of residents start. This time April and May have been very cool months and it has rained substantially so there was no reason for water shortages. But regular complaints from residents of all blocks from Safdarjung Enclave have been pouring in on the MLA’ s public what’s app group. B4 block is at the far end of the colony so maximum water shortages are being reported from this area. Everyday there are demands for water tankers.

It is appreciable that our MLA has been sending trackers to all the needy with promptness but sending a tanker is no solution. The supply should be sufficient and potable water should reach all the residents Clean water and clean air is the fundamental right of every citizen. But sadly it has been years that the residents were promised 24×7 water supply but till now the problems are on the rise.

The next problem is that of sewage backlash in the basements of people specially during rainy season. One small spell of rain brings havoc to the residents having a basement. There is massive damage to properly due to the dirty water entering the houses making the foundation weak.

Then there is mixing of sewage water with the drinking water. This contamination is extremely dangerous and has grave health hazards.

Everyday there are numerous complaints of contaminated water in houses. Then the requests for suction machines to get the sewage cleaned. One wonders whether we are living in a posh colony or a slum? Paying hefty taxes and getting filthy water in our taps is really uncalled for.

The other issue is of hard water supply. Many many houses in SJ Enclave are in getting borewell water which is hard. As a result all the appliances., taps. Shower cubicles etc are all spoiled and calcium deposits are formed on all the fittings. So much money is spent on these gadgets which goes down in drain due to hard water. This hard water is extremely detrimental to hair health and residents have reported massive hair fall in the last few years.

Now MLA Somanath Bharti has assumed the charge as VC DJB so one can expect clean water supply. Increased timings of water supply and no sewage backlash and water contamination.
