Baisaakhi: A Festival of Bravery
Usually, people consider Baisakhi a festival of Bhangra, music and dance, but this is the day when “Khalsa Panth “was established.
In 1699 tenth Guru of Sikhs, Sri Govind Singh ji started “Khalsa Panth” on the same day. For that, he selected five people from different caste and states. Dayaram of Lahore (a merchant), Dharmdas from Merrut (a farmer), Mukham Chand of Dwarika (a tailor), Sahib Chand of Karnataka (a cobbler) and Himmat Rai from Odisha (a Maison) were the first ones and Guru Govind Singh Ji named them “Panch Pyare”. This way, he tied all the casts, states and occupations together.
This year Baisakhi was celebrated with great enthusiasm. Till last year, due to Covid, it was taking place inside the house and after Japji Sahib Path and Ardaas, food was distributed to all the workers. But this year, it was celebrated on a large scale, and all the residents participated.
