Solar power is the best solution for a power crisis, cost-wise, as after a few years the cost incurred on installation is recovered.
Wellington installed a solar power plant in 2019. The government and DLF provided financial assistance for the installation of a grid-connected rooftop plant. Today wellington residents are reaping the harvest of the then-installed plant.
Besides getting the credit for the power generated, as a community our total energy consumption comes in a lower slab resulting in a lower/unit electricity rate. It serves a dual purpose, viz, lower energy cost and zero pollution as compared to thermal power plants.
Keeping in mind the number of occupied homes in Wellington, our approximate savings per month as a society would be around Rs 2.4 lakhs, resulting in saving of about 28 lakhs/annum. Thus, the electricity bill of each apartment has come down substantially. If we talk about carbon footprints, we as a community must have saved approximately 2500 big trees from getting cut down, taking into consideration the power we save.
The Wellington solar power model has been quite successful and other condos of Club Drive should follow suit.
