Meghdutam Rangmanch is an offline platform for community engagement in the creative arts. It is a community music initiative (informal-open mike, community dances) coupled with promotion of talent that exists within our community through curated performances.
Music and the arts bring communities together. Community music enables people to make music with each other. It also fills residents with pride when local talent participates in live performances.
The construction of a performance for an audience requires craftsmanship. If we are to ever hold and grow an audience, we must build layers of appeal and anticipation in our events. This cannot be done by an artist performing on stage. This is the role which Meghdutam Rangmanch plays.
Our events, therefore, abstain from unnecessary frills, time-consuming felicitation and speech-giving or promotion of individuals, including the artist. The focus is on the art. Your voice, your performance, your talent and creativity is what counts.
Finally, concerts and workshops do not represent a viable financial proposition. Whatever investment is required for such a community endeavour can be achieved by pooling resources (financial, venues and volunteers) from the community.
Conducting Programs Indoors During Summers and Monsoons: During the hot summer and humid monsoons, it becomes difficult to conduct outdoor programs. These can only be conducted indoors.
Meghdutam Rangmanch has lined up several interesting workshops such as creative writing, calligraphy, art, theatre, music and dance workshops in the coming months.
We request apartments around F Block and in neighbouring sectors to provide us indoor spaces for a few hours now and then to enable us conduct these events during inclement seasons. We have received such support from four apartments before the pandemic. This way the events are easily accessible by residents who often have to forego events elsewhere due to distance, logistic and time constraints. It is gratifying that Alok Vihar 1 has offered their community hall for conducting Meghdutam Rangmanch events.
Community Support and Participation Fees for Workshops: All art is not financially viable and requires a certain level of patronage. We hope the community (individuals or organizations) continue to offer us support by voluntary contributions as they have been doing so.
We invite experts and professionals to conduct workshops. It is incumbent on us to offer an honorarium to them for the content they develop, their time and travel. The fee we charge for these workshops is meant to take care of this.
We seek you understanding and support.
