Every now and then we get to hear stray dog bit someone they are barking they are chasing kids chasing pet dogs. Who can we blame? MCG or other local authorities or residents who are feeding them?
The stray population is increasing each day. A few resident groups are doing an excellent job by trying to manage their food, vaccine & shelter.
I feel these groups should together submit a proposal/petition to the Local Authorities like the MCG, requesting to grant space for a stray shelter where strays can be cared for effectively and humanely. Each Phase or combined Phases can have one such shelter where strays can be looked after.
Going forward, increasing stray dog population can become a public health concern. Dog bites and rabies are all risks for residents living in areas with a large population of strays. The disruption caused by street dogs barking because of territorial fights is also a problem faced by residents in our areas. It is important to reduce the stray animal population to control the spread of dangerous diseases and stop dog bites and attacks.
The only effective and practical method of reducing the population of stray dogs is sterilisation which prevents further breeding, Immunisation and adoption.
We should think about how each of us can contribute to creating a healthy environment for strays. It is time we all get United and request for shelter homes and move them from our streets for a better life for them and us.
