If there is one thing you admire is that Delhi Jal Board is never ‘ at fault’. Either it is disruptions in water supply from neighbouring states or the 100-yearold rusted water pipes bursting out! As a
result, we have had delayed supply and waterless days, much more during the recent months.
Imagine the fate of residents living in DDA flats getting only one & half hour supply a day (in D-3/4). The local UGR pumps water at such a low pressure that it requires 2 electric motors for every far flung flat to suck water from the main line and to then pump it up. Residents use motors of competing hp to get a lion’s share of water in a limited period. Mushroom shaped storage tanks installed by each of the flat owners not only occupy a large part of the common passage but also present an ugly sight.
In last 33 years, it has been repeatedly suggested that a large overhead tank is installed which can ensure 24/7 supply using gravity and saving so much energy now being used to run hundreds of motors in the colony ! Nearby nuclear station on JNU road has successfully installed one despite being right under the flying trajectory.
We are waiting for the Federation of VK RWAs to take up common issues like this, which affect all sectors. Delhi Govt keeps repeating its promise of providing 24/7 water supply to the city without a timeline!
