Noise Pollution from School & Hajipur: A Major Concern

Ncoming from nearby schools and the Hajipur market has been a concern for residents. With a senior secondary school right next door, residents are often bothered with the noise coming from their school assembly, events, outdoor activities etc.

A similar problem is the noise coming from pubs and bars across the road in Hajipur market who have no tab on the volume of music they play. A resident commented “The sound coming from these places is so loud that us evening walkers have no option but to dance on them!”
The CPCB has laid down the permissible noise levels in India for different areas. Noise pollution rules have defined the acceptable level of noise in different zones for both daytime and nighttime. Day time noise standard prescribed for residential areas in India is 55 dB. Daytime is defined as 6 AM to 10 PM.

We should collectively try and find solutions to create noise barriers around such areas to improve the quality of life of residents. One possible solution could be a noise barrier wall that is often used on highways to absorb traffic noise.

As a society, we should also consider installing smart noise sensors that can monitor the noise levels coming from these establishments. At some point, we could integrate these with the local law enforcement so that prompt action can be taken to control the noise.
