An Emotion-Packed Football League In Regency Park 2

Every evening the playground of RP2 is abuzz with the sounds of children of all ages playing football, basketball, cricket or just plain running and jumping around basically having fun. The level of involvement the kids display during these friendly matches is also amazing. It’s like they believe in the quote by Cristiano Ronaldo “Without football my life is worth nothing”.

Such is the craze especially about football that the kids made a request to the RWA to organise a football league, to which they agreed.

Kids from age 10 yrs onwards signed up for the league and very soon there were 4 teams ready to play. Rajneesh a resident of RP2 agreed to be one of the referees and Sahil Verma (Sahil bhaiyya to all the team members) was the other referee.

Come 15th January, a cold yet sunny morning, four teams of children lined up. The referees explained the rules as is customary. There was a round of semi-finals and then the winning teams would face each other in the finals. The duration of each game was 30 mins with two halves of 15 mins each.

The energy on the field was palpable as the whistle was blown to start the first game. The kids used innovative names for their teams like The RP2 Wolves, The RP2 GOATS, RP2 FC (Football Club). Emotions were running high both on and off the field, with players show ing elation and tears every time a goal was scored. The spectators kept the energy up by cheering all the kids. The referee, our very own Sahil played a dual role by offering mentoring during the final match to players of both the teams.

All in all a super fun morning which added a different level of energy and enthusiasm to the air.
