A Successful Prayaas!

Project Solely Dedicated to Housekeepers (Maids) Working in Sec D-3&4

It has been six months but the journey seems to have just begun.

Rotary Club of Delhi Lutyens, in association with RWA D-3&4, has been running “Project Saheli Ek Prayaas”. This project is solely dedicated to house keepers (maids) working in sector D-3&4. As part of the program, they were imparted proper menstrual hygiene education and the supply of sanitary napkins once a month. It has been six months since the project took off! The Project Coordinators are Atula Jain & Archana Chandel. On an average, 70-80 beneficiaries showed up every month.

During a casual conversation in Dec, between Atula and Archana an idea flashed in their minds to do something more for this disadvantaged community! Distribution of food, shawls, sweaters, and blankets has been done on various occasions!

Slim Homes, founded by Dr Savita Nagpal, for many years, has been in the forefront in this field!

How about an hour long cultural program designed for them? An hour free from their daily hustle and worries.

And this is how an Hour-long Cultural Program was held on 21 Jan 2023, followed by lunch and distribution of shawls and sanitary napkins! This happened for the very first time in D-3&4, under the supervision of Atula Jain & RWA Joint Treasurer Archana Chandel.

Vivek Jain, Rotary Club President, Tarun Gupta, and Club Secretary Vipul Goel supported the project. RWA D-3&4 President Uday Shanker, Jt Sec Vandana Ahluwalia, members Rekha Ralhan & Rashmi Sharma were also present.

There was an overwhelming response! They danced, sang and enjoyed the moment especially made for them. More than 300 housekeepers enthusiastically participated in the program.

This is just the beginning!

Menstrual Hygiene is Human Right of every woman…..regardless of her social and economic status!

There are other nameless residents who clapped from a distance. They too are constantly striving to get the disadvantaged a fair treatment and their due, in more ways than one!
