Around three weeks ago the trunk sewer line in CV Raman Road between gates BC7 and 8 developed a block which led to many of the manholes on BC7 road in NFC overflowing with sewage. The street looked like a stream of sewage and many residents could not step out of their homes. The stink was all pervading and a health hazard. The DJB tried to clear the block with super suckers but were unsuccessful. This was the second time the problem recurred at the same location in the last six months and so the RWA demanded the DJB replace this length of the sewer line.
The trunk line is 16’ below the road level and will need almost 19’ deep excavations at two locations to carry out a trench less sewer line replacement. The Chief Engineer of DJB issued his order for the work to begin but this required permissions from the PWD and DCP Traffic, which also came in very promptly, with the RWA and residents working in tandem.
The contractor who is carrying out the work has begun pumping out the sewage from the 16’ deep manhole on CV Raman Road by passing the blocked length and as I write this it has been five days with limited relief. We hope the work is executed soon.
