Indraprastha Villa Society
As you grow older, you observe how things around you change. From telephones to smart-phones, from mom-and-pop stores to e-commerce, and from post offices to social media; things, by and large, have advanced in ways to make our lives better. While there are many ways in which the world around us has progressed, there remain areas wherein there have been little to no improvements.
Looking at the scene, I couldn’t help but wonder why roads are still re-surfaced traditionally- with obsolete machinery that produces a lot of air pollution. Piles of sand and stones, ominous smoke, and blazing furnaces all contribute to the scene of this little hell, which is encircled by orange caution cones. Are we in 2023?… is an imaginable question that may spring to one’s mind while glancing at the image.
One logical explaination could be the lack of investment in modern construction methods, technology adoption, and limited government regulations on pollution control. This has lead to the continued use of traditional construction methods that result in high levels of pollution. But why is it that such techniques continue to be followed in this day and age when immense strides are being made towards energy & sustainability through technology? Not something that we may neccessarily know the answer to; but it is a question worth asking.
