The senior citizens of GK-2 enjoyed a picnic on the sunny day of 17th December`22 at the Batra Farm House. Enthusiastic members reached the venue with the pre-purchased coupons for registration, which was done along with handing over tambola tickets to each participant.
The programme started with the serving of fresh masala tea and fritters. Caps of different colours were distributed to all present. The tempo of fun picked up with the singing of solo songs presented by the regular members of the music group. People danced to the tunes of these songs.
Then came fresh salad of carrots and radish with chat masala for additional flavor. An interesting quiz was organized in which the participants were given token prizes for giving correct answers. The music lovers had further prepared an awesome medley based on the dancing star Shammi Kapoor`s songs. This was followed by a group dance on the song `yeh dosti hum nahi bhulenge` The lively atmosphere was so infectious that everyone joined in the singing and formed a train.
Then came the fun game of tambola which everybody enjoyed.
In the soup interlude before lunch, there was a dance presentation on `Dhol baaje re`. The main lunch course consisted of Dahi Bhalla, Dal Makhani, Veg Jafrani with paneer, pulao, sarson ka saag with assorted breads. In keeping with the season, the dessert was gajar halwa. The lovely sunshine in the sprawling lawns with piping hot food was a luxury for all. The fancy dress competition covering an interesting range of themes such as mobile library, Santa Claus, Dilli Banjaran and Kashmiri girl was a visual treat. Finally, a lucky draw was taken out.
The Forum for seniors citizens is beholden to the Batra family for lending its property to the seniors for their picnic every year as well as for distributing Gajak to all participants.
