It’s Not about Just Your Teenager It’s about All Age Groups
The other day I heard some concerned parents of teenagers in the park talk about these dating apps due after a recent case where a boy met a girl on a dating app and later chopped her into pieces in Delhi.
It’s not about just your teenager; it’s about all age groups. You have a 1 year old baby today so imagine 20 years later there might be triple whammy of blue whale and maybe dating app delivery at your doorstep (pun intended).
So dear parents, don’t be overwhelmed by what’s happening as it’s the upbringing that matters. Giving better food to the boys and not the girls, teaching cooking to girls and not boys, setting deadline to come home late for the boys and earlier for girls, all these need to change.
It’s not about 24/7 supervision but GEM’s which is genuine emotional encounters, so yes family sitting together on the dinner table is a must and just talk to your kid, have that open communication with what’s happening in the world, what’s happening with them, their friends.
Children learn through imitation, be aware of your words, actions. When you say to your wife/husband you are good for nothing you have no idea what is being stored in that child’s memory.
There might be problems at home; marital discord, in laws issues, be sensitive to the child, how you are treating your wife/husband is important and if the intensity of the situation is too much example heading for divorce, don’t forget the child is both parents responsibility so talk to the child, explain your issues and when required take expert help.
Notice signs in your child, aggression, bullying, withdrawn and intervene as early as possible. Hence change your focus from play areas and lavish b’day parties to bringing up a value oriented, gender sensitive and life skill oriented child.
