We the Residents of S Block Are Truly Blessed
by MK Gupta
S Block Park, beautifully maintained by the trained staff of S Block Welfare Society (SBWS) also boasts of more than 280 trees of 32 different varieties. Some species are: Nati Papari, Bargad,
Peepal, Silver Birch, Semal, Mulberry, Bel Patra, Jamun, Fish Tails, Bottle Brush, Amaltas, Rudrakash, Kadamb, Pine, Ashoka & many more.
Sixty years back, when S Block was just evolving, there was no park but space had been earmarked for this three-acre park by DLF. I still remember that there were many tall & big trees even at that time in this space, which was just a barren piece of land. There was no boundary wall except some barbed wires at a few places.
I am sure that some of the trees here are more than one hundred years old. Just have a look at the trunk of the magnificent Silk cotton tree, spreading over more than three meters with a height of more than twenty meters.
It’s a real treat to watch these hundreds of trees, giving a lot of oxygen & purifying the air, day in & day out. We the residents of S Block are truly blessed to have this beautiful park & these magnificent trees.
