Why husband and I are probably the most recent residents to have shifted into our apartment in Kalypso Court, Tower 10.
We have put a lot of time and effort into the interior of our place and were very pleased when a recent first-time visitor to our flat complimented the beauty of the lighting, sofa set and artwork. We began to tell them where we got it from and that’s when our guests told us that they were referring, not to our flat, but to the Lobby !!
This hilarious anecdote just proves the impact that the Lobby probably has on every visitor to KT 9 and 10. It is a lasting and mesmerizing first impression.
But those of us who reside there are well aware that this was not always the case.
The towers began occupancy in late 2019. At that time the lobbies were in a disgraceful state with peeling paint, seepage in walls, stinking toilets, rickety sofas and a general air of neglect.
By early 2020, with the arrival of a few more residents, the dismal state of the Lobby became a point of general discussion. The number of residents grew steadily despite the pandemic. Lockdowns limited visitors but increased community interaction and a sense of community ownership.
May 2022 saw almost 50% occupancy in both KT 9 and 10. For many of the residents the state of the Lobbies changed from becoming a point of discussion to a plan of action.
A small group of enthusiasts from both towers took it upon themselves to seek contributions from all residents and/or owners to create a fund to meet the cost of renovating these spaces.
Although this is the primary task of the builders, these residents enthusiastically took it upon themselves to ‘be the change .’ Renovation plans were developed. Bargains were sought. In-house talent was harnessed. This commitment attracted monetary contributions from over 40 persons from each tower; some of whom were non-resident owners.
The money was then put to good use and the team in charge not only engaged a carpenter, plumber, electrician and painter but also put in their own time and effort to select and tastefully arrange the newly purchased furniture and self-created art work.
Within 3 months of undertaking the task, the Lobbies of KT 10 and KT 9 were transformed almost magically to a five-star standard.
A simultaneous interest in the greenery outside has resulted in the entrance to these two Towers serving as a prime example of the beauty that can result through community spirit.
