Gokulashtami Celebration at the Club
Sweeter than honey, tastier than curds, pleasanter than any happiness is the power of the name of Krishna, the company of Krishna.
In the same spirit, Janmashtami was celebrated with great fervour on September 6th at the Silver Oak Hall of Club 15A.
The decorations, comprising floral rangolis, banana leaves, stage backdrop, peacock plumes, buntings and matkas, enhanced the Gokul-Mathura rustic theme. As Vandana Shukla, the charming emcee, welcomed all, the guests were greeted with chandan tilak and ittar. Krishna’s life-story was depicted through a beautiful and engaging display of jhaanki, put together by Radhika Gupta and Dipeka Jalan.
A short story was narrated by Dipeka in an interactive manner to highlight Krishna’s birth and divinity. Laddoo Gopal’s snaan and shringaar in his traditional poshak was viewed with awe by the children and everyone present. Uma Bagla shared her pearls of wisdom about Krishna’s teachings and essence.
The highlight of the event was the spectacular performances put up by – the natkhat Krishnas, joyful Radhas, elegant sakhas and Gopis of our sector. The audience was enthralled by their cute movements, adorable expressions and plentiful ‘adaa’ which stole everyone’s heart. A special mention for our very own talented Rachna Gupta who trained and ensured her students to come up with an applause worthy show. Richa Gupta and Vrinda Gupta, the young ladies of our Sector, gave an enchanting dance performance, evoking feelings of renewed faith and reverence. Varsha Bansal’s melodious rendition of Yashomati Maiya se bole Nandalal, made everyone hum the all-time favourite bhajan. All the children present were felicitated with Krishna-themed books.
It was a sight to behold to see all the children gather excitedly around the dahi handi pinata, eager to gather as many goodies as possible. Ghanshyam Gupta, who conceived and executed the entire event with utmost devotion, creativity and enjoyment, did the honour of breaking the handi with the youngest Krishna present.
Both young and senior members enjoyed milking the cow and the churning butter activities, momentarily transporting themselves to the simple joys of simple living. The members relished matra kulcha and pav bhaji and appreciated mishti doi as the prasad!
All in all, it was an evening which saw smiling faces and satisfied souls of 300-plus attendees.
