15 Lac Litre Underground Tank Proposed in Suncity

Water is the mainstay of our survival but with rising temperatures and lowering water tables, the water scenario is grim. With water rationing done at the source, the water we are receiving is comparatively lesser, the situation gets even worse with erratic water supply, heavy motors sucking the water from the main pipelines, water wastage owing to overflowing tanks, leakages and callous attitude towards water, a precious resource. So, most of us are facing the brunt of water scarcity as residents of Suncity.

The sunny side of this parched picture is that consistent efforts are being made to have a water-safe future. It was great to know that we have twelve rainwater harvesting pits in Suncity that play a vital role in conserving the rain water and recharging the declining water table. As a community this is a responsible step, also we have a trench around La Lagune that diverts water to the natural water bodies in the Aravallis, again contributing to the conservation of water and making water available for the diverse flora and fauna in the Aravallis.

Ms Kusum Sharma, SRWA shared that one of the major endeavours in ensuring the water availability is a proposal already in process for a 15 lac litre Underground Tank that will be able to cater to the burgeoning water need. Water from the Sewage Treatment Plant has been used to water five parks till now. Now with an increased amount of STP water available, the water needs of seven more parks can be taken care of, reducing the burden on potable water considerably.

We as a community can do quite a lot to save this very basis of life, water by being more thoughtful of water usage. Just by minimizing the water leaks and overflow of water, we can save gallons of precious potable water going to drains. Clean drinking water is a luxury for many in several parts of the globe, with no new water forming on the planet and increasing population, water will be a scarce resource that needs to be used and managed judiciously. Every drop of water is a gift to humanity, a shared resource that we must be very careful about.
