झंडा ऊंचा रहे हमारा

The month of January and Republic Day reminds us all of cold foggy and misty mornings devoid of bright sun. This year also while our country celebrated 74th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and energy, some people stayed at home glued to the TV, witnessing colourful parade and fly-past telecast from Kartavya Path.

But noon time the scenario cheered up totally as the Sun God decided to smile on us in Noida, and out came about 40+ plus children between the age group of 10–18 years into the Central Park of Sector 50, Noida. With their colourful costumes and accessories supported by NGO Jan Jagran Sangathan headed by Madhu Mittal. This year 26 January was also the combo celebration for Basant Panchami and Sarswati Pooja.

The programme began with the National Anthem, Vande Matram, Sare Jahan Se Achha and many more patriotic songs followed by sprinkling of marigold petals and Sarswati Vandana. These children who study in various neighborhood schools sang many group songs, with some solo performances, some poems and danced to Bollywood hit numbers of their choice.

The added attractions were the informative talk and quiz conducted by Sonu Rathore, coordinated by Manju Gupta. The excited children took an active part and enjoyed the activities thoroughly as was obvious from their colourful dresses like lehenga, suits, dupattas, caps with accessories like gajras, bangles and tricoulour make up, under the guidance of the organizers.

The main object of these community activities is to encourage and promote confidence of less privileged class so as to make them responsible and socially active citizens.

Sangeeta Gaur, Subhashini Moorti and Suman Ganesh were the guests. A whole lot of walkers and passerby from the park joined the audience and appreciated the youngsters’ efforts. These included some kids and senior citizens as well.

All the participants were given chocolates as prize. In the end Sonia Kansal brought home-made (Basanti) yellow sweet rice to be distributed to everyone. Home-made kheer and banana cake brought by Sonu, hot pakoras brought by Manju, and hot tea served by another volunteer were enjoyed by all.

Finally the evening ended in a great picnic and festive mood, making it memorable for all of us alike to look forward to next year also.
